Programs & Subsidy Options

 PreCanskate

 

These programs are designed to teach the very young skater basic movement on the ice and inspire confidence. These programs have a strong element of play built in to encourage and capture the attention of young students. The programs will help to prepare the young skater for our Mainstream CanSkate program.

Skaters who register for either program must be 3 years old by Oct 1st or age 4 by Dec 31st.  These programs will offer one 30 minute session per week and will be held on either Tuesday or Thursdays.

Skaters who are 4 years old have an option to try out a two-day CanSkate program, based on his/her previous skating skills and comfort level.  

The PreCanskate program will be instructed and assessed by a professional Skate Canada coach and lead by volunteer Program Assistants (P.A.s). 

CSA approved hockey/skating helmets are mandatory.


CanSkate

 

The CanSkate program is geared to beginner skaters ages 4 and older. Whether you are looking to improve the basic skating skills for figure skating, hockey or ringette, or just wish to skate for fun and recreation, CanSkate is the place to start. 

Conducted in a fun and friendly environment the CanSkate program showcases a comprehensive series of balance, control and agility skills, using a nationally-tested and proven curriculum that supports skater success in developing stronger basic skills on the ice.

This program is instructed and assessed by professional Skate Canada coaches and lead by volunteer Program Assistants (P.A.s).

This program runs twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

CSA approved hockey/skating helmets are mandatory.

PreJunior

 

The PreJunior program is a great next step in figure skating. The program introduces the skaters to the basic figure skating elements to create the foundation for singles, pairs and ice dance. 

This program is for CanSkate Stage 5 and 6 skaters. 

This program is instructed and assessed by professional Skate Canada coaches.

The PreJunior program runs three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.

CSA approved hockey/skating helmets are mandatory until skater has completed the Canskate Stage 6 level.

Junior StarSkate 1-2

 

The Star 1-2 program is the next step in figure skating, the program introduces the skater to the basic figure skating elements to create the foundation for singles, pairs and ice dance. 

All skaters in this program must have passed all CanSkate Stage 6 or equivalent.

As the skaters are learning skills they are being assessed by coaches in many different disciplines within the sport. 

This program runs Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Intermediate StarSkate 3-5

 

The STAR 3-5 program is the introduction to figure skating program that follows CanSkate. Skaters will explore the building blocks of our sport that will support the development in any area of figure skating they choose to go. As the STAR 3-5 program is located at the entry of the Learn to Train stage, a large part of this program focuses on teaching the skaters how to train. The program is built on repetitive type exercises or drills to reinforce development and training strategies. In the Learn to Train stage skaters are encouraged to acquire a skill set that will allow them to reach the highest level of proficiency that their unique talent and commitment will allow. It is defined by technical development rather than chronological age.

All Star 1-5 skaters will be assessed by coaches in many different disciplines within the sport. 

This program runs Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

StarSkate 5-Gold

 

The Star 5-Gold is an assessment and event structure for skaters who have completed Star 1-5 Program. This structure builds on the skills acquired in Star 1-5 and introduces skaters to more advanced figure skating elements. 

All Star 6-Gold skaters will be assessed by an outside judge hired to assess the skaters during a High Test Day. These are planned a few times a year by the club. These dates will be posted on the calendar and reminders will be sent via email. 

This program runs Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Friday is for private lessons between skater and coach and is billed directly to skater.
